The Program:
The development of a community health center to serve the needs of the immigrant and refugee communities in Clarkston will be the topic of presentations and discussions. This project is truly an interfaith project bringing together leaders from multiple religious traditions from other parts of Greater Atlanta in loving service to their Clarkston brothers and sisters of equally diverse backgrounds.
Presentations will sketch the development of the Clarkston Community Health Center from the kernel of an idea in the mind of its founder over two years ago. The complexity of steps required to move the project forward will be described. Representative members of the multiplicity of participants who are now working together to bring the project to fruition will tell their stories. The imminent completion of the project will be celebrated.
The Discussion Leaders:
CCHC Co-founder and President Saeed Raees and CCHC Co-founder Dr. Gulshan Harjee will lead the presentation. Saeed has been an active leader in the AILF since its founding in 2008. Joining in the presentation will be doctors who have generously volunteered to serve as medical staff. Respondents to the presentation will be representatives of Clarkston area refugee organizations.
********************************************************************************************************************************
The AILF’s association with the Clarkston communities is the work of AILF founder Ben Johnson. Members will recall the October 2013 AILF event: “Challenges for Somalis in Clarkston”. Others will remember the March 2014 event when friendships were developed and worship and meals were shared. Our meetings with the Clarkston community present unique opportunities to learn about the faith, cultures, and persons who embody different ways of seeing the world.
For your convenience, the meeting details are summarized in the attached announcement. Pass along copies of this e-mail and the attached announcement to any friends who might be interested.
Peace, Shalom, Salaam!
Bill Voss, AILF Secretary
