SACRED FAITH CONVERSATIONS CONCERNING RACE
OPENING OURSELVES TO GOD’S DIVERSITY THROUGH OTHERS’ EYES AN INVITATION TO JOIN US! During this time of pandemic, are you missing connections with others? Are you concerned about race relations? Would you like to learn what others think and believe? Would you like more diverse friendships? Would you like a safe place to discuss the pressing community issue of racial justice? If so, we are excited to invite you to consider this opportunity to work with your sacred friends in small groups to address the evils of individual and systemic racism. Together, we will face both the internal challenges and societal institutions that create this serious impediment to American life. We will be encouraged not only to acknowledge our own biases, but to use that self-knowledge to help address our local discriminatory systems and institutions. Together, we will work to become antiracists and to take collective actions that dislodge the biases of local social structures. ICI is a group of people of all faiths and we welcome people of all beliefs and backgrounds! For five weeks, we will meet on Tuesday evenings for an hour and a half with new friends to listen and to share how our faith impacts our relationships with the Divine and others. (During this challenging time, the meetings will be held on the social network Zoom). Each week, we will be guided by a unique goal, specific questions, and action steps provided by our Sacred Friends Community. Discussions will encourage our curiosity about each other’s faith, cultivate respect for our differences, nurture trust within relationships, and foster openness in sharing. Through these friendships born of diversity, we hope to strengthen our communities by building relationships of trust, collaboratively considering civic issues, enhancing our understanding, and forging pragmatic solutions to pressing questions. Our second set of modules will rely upon the friendships that we have built to support our work on the timely issue of healing the racial divide. Join us!
