Tayyibah TaylorTayyibah was born in Trinidad, grew up in Canada and embraced Islam when she was 19. She is the founding editor-in-chief and publisher of Azizah Magazine, the winner of a 2010 Folio Eddie Award and a 2009 New America Media Award. Azizah magazine, based in Atlanta, Georgia, provides a voice for Muslim women in America, highlights their accomplishments, and shatters commonly held stereotypes. Ms. Taylor’s passion for spirituality, women’s issues and communication furthers the causes of Muslim women.
Ms. Taylor has worked on several interfaith initiatives and traveled with various groups of Jews, Christians and Muslims through the World Pilgrims program. In Spring 2010, she was one of eight Muslims to meet His Holiness the Dalai Lama in an Islam-Buddhism Common Ground event and she was invited to the White House Iftar in August 2011. Most recently, she travelled to Tajikistan and Afghanistan to speak about women’s empowerment and entrepreneurship. She was named one of the world's 500 most influential Muslims in a book produced by Georgetown University in Washington D.C. and Jordan's Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Center in 2009. |
